Treatment against neurological and neurodegenerative diseases

1)TREATMENT AGAINST NEUROLOGICAL AND NEURODEGENERATIVE DISEASES

TOURETTE SYNDROME

Some researchers tried to treat Tourette syndrome with a synthetic version of tetrahydrocannabinol (marinol), the main psychoactive chemical found in cannabis. They observed that patients taking marinol had a beneficial response without serious adverse effects. Marijuana help reduce tics, but validation of these results requires longer, controlled studies on larger samples.

ALZEIMER'S DISEASE

Researchers of the Scripps Research Institute in California showed that tetrahydrocannabinol prevented the formation of deposits in the brain associated with Alzeimer's disease. Many studies of this institute also proved that THC prevented an enzyme called acetylcholinesterase from accelerating the formation of «Alzeimer plaques» in the brain more effectively than several medicines. THC is also more effective at blocking clumps of protein that can inhibit memory and cognition in Alzeimer's patients.
