Cannabis Addiction

Cannabis is said to be a soft drug. This designation is certainly due to the fact that Cannabis, contrary to other drugs which are said hard as Cocaine or Heroine, is known to provoke a soft addiction and few harmful effects. Cannabis is one of the drug which causes less dependence : 10% of cannabis consumers have difficulties to stop.
Dependency to Cannabis would be more psychic. Indeed, the users said addicted are often obsessed with getting the drug. Their principal center of interest is to consume it.
Actually, physic addiction comes from the dopamine released in the brain. (cf 'The Reward System'). THC stimulates acetylcholine release (a neurotransmitter) in the synaptic cleft and so stimulate dopamine release in the accubens nucleus thereby activating the reward circuit and pleasure.
It is important to know that when Cannabis is smoked, the tobacco present in the joint can be a cause of dependency. The user would be addicted to Cannabis but also to tobacco.

After regular consumptions, the effects of Cannabis decrease because the user is used to the substance. The user will have to increase his quantity of Cannabis consumption to get the same effects. This is tolerance.
During serfdom, the users have many symptoms as a lose of appetite, anxiety, insomnia, irritability and anger. The release of dopamine in the nucleus ceases and can results in a loss of happiness and lead depressive syndromes.

Such as addiction to nicotine, THC has a desensitization action of nicotinic cholinergic neurons. The brain develops an addiction to THC .

As well as dependency, there are a lot of non-desired effects, provoked by Cannabis, and many of them are harmful. These undesirable effects can be physical and psychic, and appear at short- term or at long-term that is to say at the moment of the consumption and also many years after it.
